How can emergency responders maintain reliable communications when networks are degraded or unavailable during crises?

This key question was addressed during a recent webinar organised by the DIREKTION project (Horizon Europe), with a prominent contribution from the DARE Project and its partners.

The webinar focused on resilient communication systems enabling effective coordination, situational awareness and informed decision-making in complex emergency response scenarios. The agenda included an overview of the European Critical Communication System (EUCCS) initiative, followed by a research-oriented assessment of the state of the art in resilient and mission-critical communications.

The project was represented by Public Safety Communication Europe (PSCE), a DARE partner, which delivered a dedicated presentation together with David Lund (EUCCS Preparation). Their contribution provided operational perspectives, concrete lessons learned and practitioner-driven insights on how communication resilience can be strengthened for first responders and civil protection authorities across Europe.

The webinar concluded with the presentation of Hybrid Edge, an awarded solution illustrating how deployable and hybrid communication systems can ensure continuity of operations when conventional infrastructure is disrupted.
