Last week, DARE was strongly represented at the 3rd Euro-Mediterranean Workshop on Fire Risks, held on 7–8 May 2026 in Cyprus and organised by the Union for the Mediterranean.
During the panel on “Preparedness and capacity building”, DARE representatives Jean-Paul MONET (VALABRE), Pierantonios Papazoglou and Jordi Vendrell (Pau Costa Foundation) shared insights from our work on evolving wildfire realities and the urgent need to strengthen interoperability among responders, wildfire response capabilities, and analytical capacities.
In the session on “Integrated wildfire risk management”, DARE Coordinator Claudia Berchtold also contributed perspectives on governance and research, building on lessons from the Firelogue.eu project.
The workshop also featured a high-level session with participation from Hadja Lahbib, alongside a visit to the new Cyprus Aerial Firefighting Hub.
These exchanges reinforced the importance of cross-border cooperation, research, preparedness, and integrated approaches to strengthening wildfire resilience across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
